Date Ideas

Let’s Go to a Museum Together!

I love to visit museums. And, it’s much more fun to do so with someone sweet! Here are some exhibits happening in the Bay Area this year that I’d love to visit. If one of these also piques your interest, maybe we should make it a date!

Art of Manga at the de Young – Sept 2025-Jan 2026

I’m not a Manga aficionado, but I do enjoy it. This exhibit explores different themes in Manga and shows rare pieces from popular Manga art, in addition to exploring the history of the genre. Whether or not you’re a Manga lover, it could be a really interesting exhibit!

Ruth Asawa Retrospective at the SF MoMA – April 5-Sept 2, 2025

A dear friend of mine is a huge Ruth Asawa fan. I don’t know much about her or her work, but it looks truly beautiful and awe inspiring. Asawa made SF her home, so she has a special tie to our city. This exhibit features rare works of hers and a lot of her sculptural works.

Ragnar Kjartansson: The Visitors at the SF MoMA – Until Sept 28, 2025

I don’t know why, but I find The Visitors one of the most moving pieces of art I’ve witnessed. I’ve seen it twice now. It’s a long form piece of music shot at an old mansion in upstate New York with a group of international musicians. Each musician sits in a different part of the house and is shown on a different screen. You walk around the room and you can hear each individual person’s piece of music more clearly as you get closer to their screen. The musicians switch rooms before leaving the house altogether. The piece was made in 2016 but became a powerful statement during the necessary isolation of COVID.

Tenderloin Museum

I’m always down for a visit to the Tenderloin Museum! This one-room museum explores the area’s rich and misunderstood history.

Lacis Museum

This small museum in Oakland is in the back of a craft shop. You have to make a reservation to tour the museum. They have really interesting exhibits on textiles. I’m not a huge textiles person but the museum’s guided tours are so fascinating. Every time I’ve been there, I’ve learned so much! Their current exhibit is on Armenian Needlelace.
